Polearms
A polearm, summarized, is what happens when you see someone and think "I want to stab that person to death, but I don't wanna walk that far."
The very essence of a polearm is that it’s a knife on the end of a really long stick; all the benefits of a sharp piece of metal minus needing to get that close to whoever you want to kill.
Lethality + reach = a significant advantage in close combat, especially against anyone that's completely untrained in how to handle that sort of situation.
Let's admit though, the situations where you're gonna be using a polearm in combat are few and far between, but that doesn't mean we need to slack off on making our stab sticks as lethal as possible.
One area of use is with cavalry charges. Oh yes, we still do cavalry charges because they're downright wonderful when done right. Imagine if you had a target armored convoy just meandering its way across some terrain, and then twenty seconds later they've lost their treads, their tires, fuel lines have been cut, and their armor has been comprised in dozens of places.
All the handiwork of a few cav scouts with their Spark Tips, or Marrow Talons, whichever they preferred to take that day. Added bonus of being ammo cost free, so we don't all get our heads twisted off by Iza because someone shot off a missile and put the operational budget into a shit filled ditch.
Alternatively, in facilities where you can't use a gun due to the sensitive
machinery, or chemicals or whatever else that happens to be in the
vicinity, close combat weapons are your only option.
When that's your range of choices, why not use a good ol' polearm?
Lastly, polearms like falchions are often issued to legionnaires who guard the really, really important places and really, really secret shit.
Still, you're not gonna see polearms all that often.
When you do though, you're probably in the wrong place and should turn
around before a very unamused Security legionnaire puts you in a chokehold.
For polearms we’ve got the following classes, cause some do more shit than others.
Christ Spear |
Heaviest Class, usually used by Wyroks or Nerve Harness Users. |
Michael Lance |
Elite class, used by spec ops teams, Wyroks or specialists. |
Azrael Javelin |
Higher end class, used by specialists and Assault Vanguards. |
Gabriel Pike |
Professional class, used by squadron commanders and specialists. |
Raphael Harpoon |
Baseline class, used by most legionnaires across all legions. |
