Summary:
As the 3 rd Legion of GDS, the Medical Legion acts as the physicians and healers of GDS.
While the primary purpose of GDS in the early days was to provide security,
and then later frontline assault support, it wasn’t long until leadership
at the time realized they lacked a rather crucial department in the
company.
That being medical support for the personnel who were being sent out to
protect facilities and fight wars.
While GDS did possess personnel who had medical training, such as combat
medics from the Gargoth War, there was no proper organization. If a
squadron or team needed a medical specialist, there was no system in place
to ensure one was available. While Dr. Ablemann was around he was only one
man holding down work both in a hospital, at a research facility, and at a
college. Instead, teams and squadrons would have to hope that a medical
specialist from the main office was either deployment ready or on shift. If
not, they’d have to make do with noting down the nearest hospital on a
napkin, throwing four packs of gauze in their backpacks and hoping for the
best.
During these early years, the GDS healthcare plan was known as “Two
painkillers, a swig of water and a change of socks.” In one case, a
Vanguard caught a bullet in the shoulder and self-medicated with half a
bottle of vodka both in the wound and in their gut. Apparently, the entire
squadron had brought along dozens of bottles of high proof alcohol for that
exact situation. By the time they got back to the main office, the injured
Vanguard required emergency surgery at a trauma center in Mountshire to
ensure the bone fragments didn’t render their arm completely unusable.
Got a month of paid leave too, so big thanks to the fucktard with the
horrible aim. – Nahli
As an answer to these kinds of issues, the Medical Legion was formed to
provide a far more organized and trained response to medical needs and
emergencies. Once funding had reached the appropriate level, the Medical
Legion went from hiring only combat medics and nurses to certified
physicians and surgeons. In time, specialists and subject matter experts
were also brought on board, eventually culminating in GDS having the single
greatest concentration of medical expertise outside of a select few medical
schools.
Though the Medical Legion doesn’t only concern itself with taking care of
legionnaires; they also take on contracts for small town governments,
cities, hospitals, trauma centers and rehab facilities.
In those capacities the Medical Legion assists clients, both private and federal, by providing physicians to take on patients in understaffed facilities, providing expertise in cases of rare diseases, and ensuring that medical care is provided during times of war, natural disasters or viral outbreaks. While GDS offers free medical care to families in the countries we operate in, the other services provide a significant amount of funding to keep the Medical Legion’s operations highly profitable as a whole.
Assisting in the Medical Legion’s mission are the following declassified special operations groups.
Psychiatric Legion
A sub-legion within the Medical Legion comprised entirely of
psychologists and chaplains, led by Chaplain Klein. Within the Psychiatric
Legion, chaplains and psychiatrists work to maintain and uphold legionnaire
mental health in GDS medical facilities, bases, detention centers, and act
as counselors for the entire organization at every level. As is tradition
with the chaplaincy, anything a legionnaire says to a chaplain is held in
the utmost confidence and will never be disclosed. For more information,
please contact your Battle Host’s chaplaincy or review the Health and
Wellbeing section of this manual.
O.D.N-15
Outbreak Detection and Neutralization.
An operations group comprised of highly trained medical experts and
researchers that are sent into the hot zone of any developing viral
outbreak or disease. Upon arrival, O.D.N-15 works to research, contain and
treat any cases before it can become a full pandemic.
Third Opinion
Rapid response medical specialists that claim a consistent,
maximum three-hour ETA no matter the situation or location. Their numbers
include the most elite War Physicians in GDS, five Aeronautical legion
pilots, a specialized Shepherd, and the fastest Rage Warden in the GDS
arsenal due to a total lack of weaponry.
Neutralizers
An operations group comprised of War Physicians that are deployed
into active war zones, areas of conflict, or extremely rough areas in
general to provide medical aid to civilians and their families. However,
unlike other Medical Legion spec ops groups, Neutralizers cross trains with
both Ark Force and S.O.A. In the event Neutralizers are deployed to an
operational theater that is under enemy control, or threat of attack, they
are fully capable of carrying out assaults, sieges, and acts of sabotage to
secure the area. As part of their work, Neutralizers commonly work
alongside W.A.R.D to accomplish their mission.
