Hammers & Bludgeons
I have a personal love for combat hammers simply because of how wonderfully
powerful they are against just about anything. As for bludgeons, apparently
that’s a separate category which is completely retarded in my opinion. I’m
folding them into a singular section, there is zero reason to separate one
from the other. Both of them kill shit by blunt force trauma, but fine I
guess there is a small difference between them.
A hammer is a hammer, and bludgeons are just churched up sticks.

Now, as to why they’re useful against most targets or enemies.
Take body armor for example, usually that's a vest or harness that's full of
plates or dense fabric that stops bullets and other horrible shit from
ruining your day. A bullet won't go through (I'd hope) but it'll still hurt
like hell and leave a rad looking bruise due to the physical impact that
comes with suddenly stopping after going faster than the speed of sound.
Take that concept, and imagine an impact that's larger, heavier, and has
enough force behind it to turn your ribcage to dust.
That's the concept of combat hammers and bludgeons. Your armor don't mean shit when someone is slamming a 55kg implement of harm into your chest and face.
We scale hammers and bludgeons up to be usable by Wyroks and anyone with a Nerve Harness, so outside of close combat they can also be used to smash up vehicles, break through fortifications, or destroy terrain to make life harder for the enemy. Though as you'd imagine, hammers and other similarly unwieldy weapons of that sort have a few disadvantages.
They're goddamn heavy.
They're goddamn clunky.
They're only for up close usage.
You will die against anyone that has a knife and can move faster than you.
For these reasons the general advice is that if you miss on the first swing, drop the hammer and pull out your backup weapon (unless you're using a Nerve Harness). Someone gets smashed with a hammer blow to the chest, they're done for.
But, if you miss, you're gonna take an entire afternoon to get that hammer back into position to swing it again. That's a whoooooooole lotta time for someone else to push something sharp into your armpit.
I've seen some Nerve Harness users swing battle hammers around like they're
made of hollow plastic, which is cool, but it's one of the reasons I don't
like issuing these out all that often.
Unless you've mastered Illit and Koris, or you're in a Wyrok, you're just
asking to be turned into a free kill mark on someone's rifle or knife
holster. I ain't letting that happen, so when I turn down your request for
a weapon you couldn’t lift overhead with a forklift don't get your panties
in a bunch.
It's not because I want to ruin your fun, it's because I think you suck and I want to keep you safe.
At least until you can prove to me that you don't suck. Then sure, grab a Grease Stain and go hit someone in the head so hard their skull ejects out of their asshole.
With hammers and bludgeons, we’ve got the following classes:
Skull Duster |
Heaviest Class, usually used by Wyroks or Nerve Harness Users. |
Spine Breaker |
Elite class, used by spec ops teams, Wyroks or specialists. |
Femur Snapper |
Higher end class, used by specialists and Assault Vanguards. |
Rib Breacher |
Professional class, used by squadron commanders and specialists. |
Jaw Cracker |
Baseline class, used by most legionnaires across all legions. |
