Back in WW2, Major General Sir Percy Hobart commanded the 79th Armored Division and was behind a lot of specialized vehicles (called Hobart’s Funnies due to how odd they were at the time). I’d highly recommend you go read up on it.

Hence the idea behind Desmond being a regal “nobleman” in charge of all armored forces in GDS, a man that walks around using a fold-up anti-material rifle as a cane and utilizes “uncommon” battlefield tactics.
